Abstract

The research consisted of generating a theoretical approach regarding citizenship education and sustainability and its integration into the curriculum, approached from the qualitative approach and the transcendental phenomenology methodology of Husserl (1986). The stages and steps proposed by Martínez (2006) were assumed and in-depth interviews were applied as a technique. The findings reveal that the educational environment, as a transmitter of values and attitudes, can be intentionally used to promote citizen education, oriented towards sustainability. In this perspective, the curriculum is linked to teaching strategies related to skills, values and attitudes related to transversal competencies that contribute to citizenship training and sustainability for meaningful and transformational learning.
