This essay develops a theoretical foundation for rural intercultural education, understood not as a compensatory strategy nor as a superficial form of cultural recognition, but as a critical pedagogical approach oriented toward the dialogical articulation between territorial knowledges and technoscientific rationalities. Drawing on contributions from critical interculturality (Walsh, 2009; Tubino, 2005) and reflections on the dialogue of knowledges and the production of situated knowledge (Leff, 2004; Mato, 2008), the analysis approaches Latin American rurality as a pedagogical space in which community practices, historical memories, and educational experiences that have historically been subordinated by school models grounded in claims of universality. The text first examines the main approaches to interculturality in education, distinguishing functional perspectives from critical ones that, in dialogue with Latin American pedagogical thought (Freire, 2005; Giroux, 2006), advocate educational relationships based on recognition, participation, and the collective construction of meaning. It then delves into the notion of territorial knowledges as forms of knowledge linked to territory, community, and rural educational experience, while also problematizing the role of technoscientific rationalities in schooling, acknowledging both their contributions and their limits in culturally diverse contexts. Through a critical theoretical review, the essay advances a conceptual articulation that conceives rural intercultural education as a pedagogical device capable of fostering productive dialogues among different regimes of knowledge and of strengthening contextualized educational processes in rural territories.
