This study aims to examine how project-based learning enhances students’ mathematical reasoning during their early years of schooling. The central focus of this topic is to address outdated methods centered on rote memorization and procedural teaching, which limit cognitive skills such as critical thinking and substantive understanding within mathematics education for young learners. The tasks are carried out through an in-depth examination using both traditional and contemporary theories of education, cognition, and interactive teaching techniques. The research indicates that, through project-based learning, students improve the development of mathematical reasoning by engaging collaboratively in real-world problems, promoting self-directed inquiry, and encouraging active participation in educational activities, while also facilitating peer collaboration during their learning process. In this capacity, teachers act as mediators who facilitate learning by providing guidance, support, and opportunities for children to connect abstract mathematical concepts with their everyday lives, thereby enhancing understanding and engagement in educational activities. This article explores how project-based learning enhances children’s mathematical reasoning during their preschool years. A critical aspect of this topic lies in addressing outdated methods focused on rote learning and repetitive tasks, which hinder effective mathematical thinking and deep understanding among young minds. This research is based on an inductive methodology grounded in insights derived from seminal works on educational theory related to learning acquisition processes, intellectual development, and participatory techniques. The analysis demonstrates how project-based learning enhances mathematical cognition through problem-solving in real-world contexts, fosters interpersonal communication, encourages independent thinking among learners, and actively engages them in educational activities.
