The mathematics teacher must promote a spirit of participation, reflection and critical thinking in each student, with a view to generating contributions and solutions to the problems of daily life, from the perspective of this discipline. The objective of this article is to reflect on the role that neuroscience plays in teaching mathematics, providing the teacher with updated knowledge about brain functioning and seeking better use through possible innovative and creative strategies when teaching mathematics. . Issues associated with the development of neuroscience, its relationship with education, and its links with mathematics are addressed. Methodologically, it is supported by a documentary review and a reflective and interpretive process. As contributions, we conclude the need to update mathematics teachers in teaching strategies that take into account the advances in neuroscience.
