The intention of this article was to highlight the importance of the conceptions of citizenship and coexistence as support for a perspective on values, which places at the forefront the purposes aimed at perfecting the most elementary sense of the social, democratisation, respect for plurality and the elaboration of third generation rights; that is, recognition, conformity and interaction with the other in a diverse cultural environment. There is a socio-ethical element in education towards civic coexistence, which is based on a sense of shared responsibility in relation to it. Methodologically, a hermeneutic field research was carried out, concluding that this element of participatory responsibility excludes the field of education from a partial approach leading, in a reduced way, to a political education or, opportunistically, to a civic education promoting socio-moral stereotypes related to the ideological group in power.
