Successful companies recognise that to be competitive in the 21st century, they must invest in human capital. It is necessary to ensure that today's workers have the competencies and skills to do their jobs effectively, to the benefit of themselves, their companies and society at large. In this regard, Catalano, Avolio and Sladogna present the book: curriculum design based on labour competence standards, concepts and methodological guidelines, in which they present and develop in a methodical and professional way the labour certification programme, a remarkable example for public and private sector entities. These standards have enabled the development of 50 curricular designs and the creation of instruments for the certification of labour competencies held by workers in 25 job roles considered strategic for productive activity. These results go beyond the sectoral scope, as methodologies are beginning to be transferred to educational institutions and other organisations.
